Note Special Instructions
To Play the Original Game.

1) To run the original, legacy Java Applet, you will need to use the Google Chrome Desktop Browser and an additional, necessary extension for this game and learning tool to work. Then it works just fine.
(Download and Install the Free Google Chrome Browser HERE.)
(The Google Chrome Browser can also be used on a cell phone, BUT I can not get the extension to work on a cell phone - only on a desktop. Please let me know if you know a solution that works on a cell phone.) (My understanding is that the extension CheerpJ in step 2 also works in Microsoft Edge - but I ran into problems with that, too.)

2) Within Google Chrome, Download and Install Free Chrome Extension from HERE (CheerpJ Applet Runner). (For Microsoft Edge download the extension from HERE.)

3) Link to Game.

4) Initially, an almost blank, black page will appear. In the upper right corner of the browser window, click on the Extensions icon, which is shaped like a puzzle piece. Then click on the extension "CheerpJ Applet Runner," and The Irania Bird Counting Game will load. Click the "New Game" button in the bottom left corner, and the first of five rounds will start immediately. Enter/Record your estimated number of birds for that round into the box on the bottom right, and click the "OK" button. Your estimate, along with the actual number, and the percentage failure rate will be displayed briefly for that round. Your score for the round is the percentage failure rate. The next round will start immediately.

5) At the end of the five rounds, your scores for each round will be shown, along with your final score - the sum of the five rounds. The lower the score the better. (Be aware that this information is displayed only for a short time, so be ready to "Print Screen" on your keyboard if you want to save it.) See below for examples from 2004.

6) Note that individual rankings within countries and overall rankings worldwide that were available originally are no longer available. So, keep a record of your own scores.

7) Be aware (Beware!) that this game (teaching/learning tool) is addictive!
