Aerial Insects Balloon Project:
Assistants

                This project would not be possible without assistance, and I gratefully acknowledge the help of the people listed below.  The list is probably not complete, but my intent is to keep it up to date as much as possible.  The short description after each name is just an index of that person's involvement in this project, and all help is very much appreciated.

Ayebo, Dr. Amadu - helped with the design to protect the balloon while anchored overnight, as well as getting some of the supplies needed to protect the balloon, preparation (padding railings) of the deck on the roof for protection of the balloon, plus helped take down the balloon in strong wind.
Bi, Dr. Shundong - helped take down the balloon.
Browe, Dr. Andy - helped put up and take down the balloon (plus helped take down the balloon in strong wind).
Browe, Daniel - helped take down the balloon.
Butler, Dr. Barkley - helped put up and take down the balloon.
Carenzo, George  - helped with the original design of the project, designed and made the elegant, efficient, and practical attachments for the collecting panels that are on the tether rope, supplied and cut the collecting panels, put in bolts  in the deck on the roof to securely anchor the balloon, put in restraining chains for the helium tanks, designed and built a winch, helped put up the balloon, plus helped take down the balloon in strong wind.
Cecconi, Bertha - financial officer for this project, ordering supplies and keeping the financial records, liaison with IUP purchasing.
Chub, Brian - helped take down the balloon (plus helped on short notice with strong wind).
Eck, Dr. John - dean of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and gave approval for the project on the roof of Weyandt Hall.
Freeman, Dr. Larry - helped design and construct an additional three-rope guy line arrangement to better stabilize the balloon in the wind, as well as helped put up and take down the balloon, including early in the morning.
Hansel, Jim
- Great Lakes IPM - advice about Tangle-Trap Insect Trap Coating and Histoclear.
Heming, Todd
- manager of the Indiana County Jimmy Stewart Airport who approved of the aerial project and issued "NOTAMS" to pilots using the local airport, and secured further approval from the FAA.
Humphreys, Dr. Jan - helped take down the balloon in strong wind.
Larkin, Dr. Jeff - helped carry a heavy table up to the roof.
Luciano, Dr. Carl - chair of the Department of Biology and gave approval for the project.
Mikolay, Bill - regular, dependable co-researcher who has helped put up and take down the balloon on a regular basis, becoming more involved with the entire project, including insect preparation.
Newcamp, Matt - helped take down the balloon.
Rhea, Cassidy - helped take down the balloon.
Richardson, Dr. Darlene - chair of the Department of Geoscience who gave permission to relocate a weather station on the roof - to reduce the risk of damage to the balloon.
Ricker, Terry - district FAA representative in Pittsburgh, PA who gave permission for the aerial project (through Mr. Heming).

Robertson, Mike
- helped with the original design of the project dealing with helium, e.g., source of helium and supplying helium to the roof through tubing, regular deliveries of helium tanks, helped put up the balloon, plus helped with other supplies.

- helped with the design and construction of a container to hold and transport the sticky panels.
Shirley, Karen - representative from the Tanglefoot Company - advice about Tangle-Trap Insect Trap Coating and Histoclear.

- Carnegie Museum entomologist who has advised in insect preparation technique and agreed to identify the insects to order.
White, Matt - helped put up the balloon.
