Professional Interests and Formal Education

Field: Embryology and Science Curriculum.

1. Effect of Trace Elements on Embryonic Growth Rates

In Western Pennsylvania, runoff from deep mines occasionally seeps into the underground aquatic aquifers. Because of the high use of deep wells by persons that do not live in incorporated areas, there is a danger of trace elements seeping into this well water. Some of the trace elements that are currently being evaluated for their possible effects on embryonic development in chick embryos are: chromium (6+), Iron (2+ and 3+), lead, nitrates. Reports of the effects of these will be published.

2. Introduction of Cultural Diversity in Science Curricula

The body of scientific knowledge is a cumulative work with persons from a variety of ethnic and cultural groups contributing. Various methods of introducing contributions by all scientists, regardless of ethnic or cultural group, are being explored. The results of this research has been presented at various conferences and seminars nationally.
