 IUP Biology Department
 Website Front Page 2001

Before Indiana University of Pennsylvania standardized all its academic websites to a business model style, this was the version of the front page of the IUP Department of Biology website in 2001 - first created in 1996, then constantly updated, by Ray Winstead ("Webmaster") - who also took the center photo of the Red-shouldered Hawk. (He also created the animated butterflies with a slow wingbeat - and the owl blinked and winked - using animated gif formats.) Of course, the website was designed for desktop screens and not cell phone screens.

This website grew from a website developed and made public first in 1996 on a server (maintained by Tom Kirkpatrick, technical staff member) in the IUP College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics before IUP even had its own website in 1997 - and was the first academic website linked from the IUP website.

IUP mandated a uniform web design after 2001, and those of us faculty members who created the first websites for their academic departments because of creative interests had no interest in being just "maintainers" - although I did do that for a couple of years later on as a favor for a colleague.
